Casts and company members of dozens of shows are joined by theatrical unions and guilds, producing organizations, local merchants and many other groups, to sell costume pieces, autographs, original scripts, rare photographs and so much more. The event also includes the Celebrity Table, where celebrities gather throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for photos in exchange for donations. The highlight of the Flea Market is the Grand Auction, in which singular items and opportunities such as walk-on roles in Broadway shows, television programs and films are available to the highest bidder.

New York’s longest running jazz concert series “Highlights in Jazz” celebrates 37 years

On Thursday, September 10th at another exquisite performancethumb_jazz presented by Mr. Jack Kleinsinger, this one featuring Barbara Carroll and Paula West, Mr. Kleinsinger announced that he will be calling it quits after 37 years in May 2010, making it an even 300 "Highlights In Jazz" concerts presented by him. He explained from the stage of the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center,  that his decision was not an artistic one, but a financial one, and that he would like to continue to produce Highlights “if someone can come up with the $40,000 it takes to produce the series.” "Highlights in Jazz," it appears, will be another victim due to the cuts in arts funding and private sponsorships. If you are interested in making donations, checks can be payable to: Highlights in Jazz and sent to: Highlights in Jazz, 7 Peter Cooper Road, New York, NY 10010

thumb_Barbara_Carroll_resizedAt the program on September 10th, Barbara Carroll, with panache and a puckish smile, captivated the audience with her playing and singing an homage to the style she has incorporated and first learned, as she said, during the true jazz era when 52nd street reigned supreme. Her set was followed by the incredible Paula West, who closed the show. The combination of these two lovely ladies made for a fine evening of jazz.
