An_Affirmative_ActFind out what people are talking about! The star-filled feature AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT - the first-ever courtroom drama about the legalization of Gay Marriage – has completed filming, according to producer/writer KENNETH DEL VECCHIO. The movie, directed by JANA MATTIOLI, will premiere at HOBOKEN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL on June 4, 2010

Starring in the film are CHARLES DURNING (2-time Academy Award/4-time Golden Globe/9-time Emmy Award winner & nominee); COSTAS MANDYLOR (Saw 6, Saw 5, Beowulf, The Pledge); ERIC ETEBARI (“Witchblade”); BLANCHE BAKER (Sixteen Candles, Emmy Award winner); TOM WAITES (And Justice For All, The Thing, Warriors); JUSTIN DEAS (6-time Emmy Award winner ); JACKIE MARTLING (“The Howard Stern Show”); and RANDY JONES (Cowboy – “The Village People”). The film also introduces ELISSA GOLDSTEIN, CANDICE HOLDORF & JEFFREY H. JOHNS.

KENNETH DEL VECCHIO is a story unto himself.  A true modern-day Renaissance man, he has written/directed/produced over a dozen feature films, starring 60+ film & TV stars, including multiple Academy Award & Emmy winners & nominees. All of his films have received considerable domestic & international distribution, with recent deals with Universal Vivendi (2 movies) & Anchor Bay. Del Vecchio is also the founder & chairman of Hoboken International Film Festival, a bestselling author (novels & legal books) & a judge, who previously tried over 400 cases as a criminal attorney.

AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT

A slice of life of a young, professional married couple with their darling baby turns a sharp, dark corner when the pair are arrested & charged with several counts of fraud. The reason: Terry & Samantha Succi aren't the man & woman they purported to be. In truth, they are two women - one, an attractive, feminine law professor & the other, a boyish-looking architect, who worked & lived as a man. Under false pretenses of being a heterosexual couple, they married, adopted their child & obtained their benefits & paid their taxes. They did so because of a state law that discriminates against homosexual partners; they were prohibited from receiving the same rights & benefits as their straight counterparts.

The Governor, in an effort to protect his anti-gay marriage bill, orchestrates a secret arrangement for a quick slap-on-the-wrist plea bargain – which will ensure both a guilty verdict & a fast end to the case. Terry & Samantha decide to fight, however, enlisting the most unlikely representation: self-absorbed, but well-respected heterosexual powerhouse attorney, John DeMine. What ensues is a massive media covered courtroom battle, with equally divided views & equally plotted acts of legal & illegal warfare. One affirmative act, deciding not only the fate of the women's freedom, but also the Governor's bill and one of the most controversial issues facing the United States, will be had in this courtroom. One affirmative act of justice…or maybe not.
