Reviews of Ziegfeld's Midnight Frolic of 2008 --
"A non-stop delight, first-rate on every level. These classic songs have lasted so many decades because they are so damned good, and while I wasn't around to see them in their original settings, it is hard to imagine them better realized.”
--Roy Sander, critic and columnist
"Mark York at the piano brings much pleasure, and he does bring zing and period punch to the numbers, seemingly a kindred spirit to the flavor of the times. His work and the musical direction of Aaron Gandy makes the old, old music sound fresh and the treatments enhance and support but do not condescend or over embellish. There's some very attractive and charming choreography by David Auxier and it has an appropriately old-time feel without at all feeling creaky or bland. This delightful production is a real banquet of song and the banquet has a really pleasing dessert. Yes, good things come to those who wait, as they pull out all the stops for the finale when the ladies come out one by one in the fanciest of costumes and those feathered headdresses we have all been waiting for. A pretty girl IS like a melody and the melodies are very pretty!"
--Rob Lester
Ziegfeld's Midnight Frolic of 2008 utilizing a dozen performers, including some elaborately costumed showgirls, recaptures in miniature a savory taste of the ambiance of the original Follies. Producer-Director Mark York and Choreographer David Auxier have done a handsome job mounting the show in the comfortable, albeit smaller, surroundings of a cabaret venue.
