The annual Broadway Cabaret Festival returns this October 15, 16 & 17, 2010. Experience an extravaganza of Broadway talent in three extraordinary cabaret concerts over one unforgettable weekend. From classic favorites to contemporary Broadway, from the newest stars to venerated icons, this is the Festival New York theatre fans have been waiting for. The series is created, written, and hosted for The Town Hall by Scott Siegel.
The series opens on Friday, October 15, at 8pm, with BROADWAY MELDOY MAKERS, a new addition to the
Broadway Cabaret Festival. Every show has them, the tunes you can’t stop humming—this show has them performed by an elite cast of talented stars. An exciting concert brimming with rhythm and beauty, featuring hits penned by songwriters who made the Great White Way great—sensational songs people all over America knew and loved. Thrill once again to music of Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, and so many others down through the decades, to the likes of Jule Styne, Cy Coleman, and more! Starring two-time Tony Award® nominees Mary Testa (42nd Street, On The Town) and Tom Wopat (Catared Affair, Annie Get Your Gun), along with Theatre World Award winner Nellie McKay (Three Penny Opera), Saturday Night Live’s Ana Gasteyer (Royal Family), and many more.
On Saturday, October 16, at 8pm, BETTY BUCKLEY (pictured above) returns to The Town Hall stage. One of only a handful of women who can be referred to as a real Broadway star and a true legend, Buckley is a Tony Award®-winner and three-time Grammy nominee having acted in films, starred on television and Broadway. Buckley made her Broadway debut in 1969, and has been called "The Voice of Broadway" by New York Magazine. Her rendition of "Memory" in Cats established her reputation. She has recorded 12 solo albums and now tours extensively across the U.S. each year. She is also a composer; her first recording contains mostly songs she wrote. An evening with Betty Buckley is one you’ll remember forever.
Sunday afternoon, October 17, at 3pm, the festival concludes with the highly anticipated BROADWAY
ORIGINALS! An unforgettable afternoon of songs and memories featuring a dazzling array of performers reprising songs they introduced either in the original Broadway production or revival. Witness the performances — and the performers — that have lit up the Great White Way these past 50 years. Experience the performances the original audiences saw, or if you were lucky enough to see them the first time, you can relive them. 20 Broadway stars including Tony Award® nominees Christiane Noll (Ragtime), Stephanie D'Abruzzo and John Tartaglia (Avenue Q), joined by the legendary Jo Sullivan Loesser (The Most Happy Fella) and more! The show will be directed by Michele Lee, who will also perform.
