December 1st will be the 23rd Anniversary of "World AIDS Day." Although we have come a long way in the fight against AIDS, the epidemic still exists. In the late 80's and early 90's, the red ribbon was worn to bring awareness to the public about this disease. Celebrities wore the red ribbon on awards shows to symbolize and remind people that AIDS existed. Today you rarely see the ribbon worn.
MAC and Cabaret Cares are asking the cabaret community to come together this year to bring back the AIDS ribbon and to remind people that this terrible disease is still very much present. We ask that on December 1, 2011, you wear a red ribbon on your coat, purse, shirt or backpack, and you leave it on for the whole month.
We will be reaching out to all the clubs, in hopes that they will allow us to leave baskets of ribbons for their patrons to take and wear. Maybe if you are doing a show in the month of December, you could wear a ribbon on stage, or maybe make an appeal at the end of your show and donate the money to your favorite AIDS organization.
Help us bring back the ribbon and show everyone that Cabaret Cares!
