Kim_SmithKim Smith charts a dark and whimsical path through the arrivals and departures of a neo-Weimar, musical misfit in Morphium; his latest sauntering jaunt through life's shadowy alleyways.  Jerry Steichen accompanies on piano.

Hailed as "A new breed of cabaret star!" (MCV Magazine, Melbourne) in his native Australia, Kim Smith returns to the venerable cabaret hotspot Don’t Tell Mama, 343 W. 46th Street (bet. 8th and 9th Avenues) on Sunday, November 22nd at 8pm, with his celebrated Neo-Weimar cabaret, Morphium. Cover is $15 general admission/$10 for current MAC members. A two-drink minimum applies. Don’t Tell Mama accepts cash only. Reservations strongly encouraged: 212-757-0788 or online at DontTellMamaNYC.com.

Singing in German, French and English, Mr. Smith has chosen a compelling international collection of songs to showcase his extraordinary range as singer and actor, reinterpreting works by Weimar-era composers, and modern-day artists alike, including: Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky, Rudolph Nelson, The Supremes, Kylie Minogue, The Divinyls, Harold Arlen and myriad glittering others.

Morphium was originally commissioned by the Neue Galerie’s Café Sabarsky as part of their March, 2009 season.  After enjoying a sold-out debut at the Sabarsky, Morphium has since performed at Melbourne’s Butterfly Club in a limited run, before returning to New York’s iconic cabaret and alternative performance melting pot, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, in July 2009.

“Smith performs as if he's a porcelain doll turning mechanically on a delicate music box. He's got a wide Mack the Knife smile…occasionally, he draws his supple hands across his chest as if wiping off illicit thoughts. Women probably find themselves wanting to mother him; gay men probably think he'd be ooh such fun to take home. He's all safe decadence and sly appeal.” (David Finkle, Back Stage)

"Kim Smith is mesmerizing."
(Barbara Leavy, Cabaret Scenes)
