The_Met_RoomQ Talk, a monthly live talk show at The Metropolitan Room, is often billed as the gay “View.” I disagree completely. “The View” is more like “Sesame Street” when compared to this gay romp in the woods, and as such, “Q-Talk” is thoroughly enjoyable (although, I wouldn’t take the cast of “Jersey Shore” to see it).

No subject seemed to be taboo when I was there; gay marriage, gay weddings, floral arrangements, recently out actors and actors who should have come out. Frantz Hall shared plans for his upcoming wedding and Joseph John talked guest lists, and then showed off his beautiful gay wedding floral arrangements with co-worker, and guest for the evening, Laura Long.

Between talk segments, the audience was treated to some great entertainment. First up was comedienne Leah Dubie, a very talented, very funny lady. The next entertainment slot was filled by the charming Tom Rocco, telling great stories and singing “One Boy” from his popular debut show, My Big, Fat, Proposition 8 Wedding. After each performance, the entertainer was invited to sit with the Q-Talk panel and chat a bit. After his chat, Mr. Rocco was asked to sing again, performing “Slow Boat to China,” another selection from his show.

The highlight of the evening was special guest star, Leslie Jordan, (“Will & Grace,” “Sordid Lives” both on film and TV), who is currently starring Off-Broadway in his one man show, My Trip Down the Pink Carpet. Mr. Jordan joined the panel for an entertaining 20-minute segment, and while Mr. Jordan did not get up and perform, his interview with the Q-Talk panel was a side-splitting trip, right in line with the rest of the evening. When asked about his coming out story, he replied that he didn’t have one, as he was never in. “I fell out of the womb and landed in my mama’s high heels,” he quipped. Mr. Jordan also talked about being raised Baptist at home in Tennessee, and revealed his arrival plans, with Lily Tomlin, for the opening night of his show. (See link below for more info on “My Trip Down the Pink Carpet.”)

Q-Talk is a very enjoyable and entertaining evening for both the LGBT community and their friends, an evening I hope to share again. Q-Talk's live talk/variety show format is led by four hosts: Joseph John, Frantz Hall, Stacey Todd Holt and Angie McKnight, although the evening I attended Ms. Holt was absent and was being covered by the very funny Jay Rogers.

More information about Q-Talk can be found at http://www.q-talk.net

The next Q talk will be Sat, May 15, 9:45pm – 11:00pm. The topic will be "Gender Identity."

Metropolitan Room, 34 W 22nd Street between 5th and 6th, NYC, NY. For reservations, call (212)206-0440. Cover charge is $5 with a 2 drink minimum.

CAUTION: Q-Talk is definitely for mature audiences only.
