Jamie deRoy & friends
Jamie deRoy throws one helluva 30th
birthday party! Jamie deRoy and friends
began, she tells us, as “that certain birthday” celebration and, at this point,
she’s been doing it so long, she’s got it down pat.
Last night’s “birthday” guests included Broadway
stars Stephen Bogardus singing William Finn’s “Venice” and Sondheim’s “Anyone
Can Whistle,” Penny Fuller’s tribute to Charles Strouse’s 80th
birthday, singing “Lorna’s Here” and a waltz version of “Tomorrow,” and Lucie
Arnaz belting out “Slow Dancing With Me” and “Until Now,” both her gain and
Liza’s loss.
A very funny Jamie quipped about AARP finding
you the moment you are about to reach that mid-century date, and sang “”What
Did I Come in Here For?” by Barry Kleinbort.
Among her other guests were Donna Lynn Champlin performing "I Will
Blaze" from Marcy at the Galaxy
and a moving “Smile,” and Ivy Austin singing "Spring Will Be a Little Late
This Year" and her take on Hillary Clinton doing a "Bill" parody
about guess who!
One of the evening’s highlights was comedienne
Jane Stroll riffing about doing drugs in the 60’s. “Let’s take mescaline and go snorkeling,” she
remembers saying, wondering why the exotic fish were staring at her! Also on hand was Gay Marshall to sing her own
version of “April in
Thanks, Jamie, for the terrific party. I look forward to your next 30th
birthday!
