November 3rd, 2009, at the Metropolitan Room is the night I saw what all of the hoopla has been about in regards to Jenna Esposito. Yes, I’ve seen her perform at various open mics and MAC functions. However, this past Tuesday I witnessed the star she is.
With the ability to hold an audience member’s attention for the duration of her act, she left me wanting more. Jenna is intelligent, well-studied, and delivers patter with the same timing with which she delivers music. She never misses. Her warmth, humor, and musicianship are apparent. Jenna Esposito does what a person in cabaret should do. She educates as well as entertains. Her performance led me to Google Connie Francis when I got home because I needed to know more about this person. The icon of Connie Francis was vague to me until Tuesday night. Now, I cannot learn enough about this remarkable woman.
Jenna Esposito’s: A Tribute to Connie Francis is probably the best cabaret show I have seen in all my years. I feel honored to have witnessed Ms. Esposito’s show. I think it akin to the way one must have felt years ago listening to Streisand at the Duplex. Everyone in attendance felt her artistry and witnessed her command of her craft. Ms. Esposito’s charisma and talent humble me. One of the most wonderful moments is when she sang a song with her sister, Kelly Esposito-Broelmann. The two voices complimented each other beautifully. She is backed by the Esposito Orchestra under the direction of Fortune Esposito. The collective musicianship is impeccable. This is absolutely the most wonderful cabaret show I have ever seen. Jenna Esposito and those who share the stage with her in this show have a true adroitness in the craft of cabaret.
