CD Review Diane Schuur

Jazz singer Diane Schuur has become the vocal national treasure she was destined to become. She has the capacity to 'take the music out' as it were both melodically & harmonically.

In addition, she handles the American Songbook as adequately as any solid pop-jazz singer is capable. Her vocals 'brew' eloquently sometimes with elements of challenging melodic & harmonic devices related to bebop. Honesty, lyricism, strength, & sound are words that I think of to describe and dissect Diane's talents. She definitely avoids all the stock devices of contemporary jazz vocalise.......In a word, Diane is unique. Amen to that!
