CD Review - Paul Meyers-Frank Wess

JAZZ!! Brought to fruition through the talents of two jazz masters... Frank Wess-reeds, and Paul Meyers-jazz guitar... This is jazz that is soft, compelling, florid, and cogent. Wess delivers his improvisations with his usual ''journeyman, I've been around awhile'' confidence, and Meyers backs him up with a certain subtle panache. In classic form, we are bent to enjoy jazz in all its articulate strains of modality, melody, beauty, counterpoint, harmony, et al.

This is a superb corpus of music with interest, musical insight, and artistic authority expressed through the musical genius of two improvisational craftsmen. Their music is capable of expressing many subdivisions of passion, mood, joy, solemnity, etc. Both Wess and Meyers have the capacity to express and deliver their music with plentiful and vivacious yet ethereal color, while maintaining their elaborately woven handle on time, meter, and feeling. All in all, this CD project succeeds in giving us an appreciation for its profundity and its richness. Take a moment to enjoy its most ethereal beauty in all its musical glory.
